Four killed in Compton car crash after police pursuit

Four killed in Compton car crash after police pursuit

Four people were killed Saturday when a high-speed pursuit by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies ended with the pursued car slamming into another vehicle.

The accident happened about 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of West Greenleaf Boulevard and South Wilmington Avenue in Compton, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Peter Ramirez. The pursuit started after the car was pulled over. Deputies believed the vehicle matched a description of a vehicle used in a shooting that had just occurred. The car sped off once the deputies exited their cruiser.

The deputies pursued the vehicle for about two miles when the car ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle slammed into a light pole, a brick wall, and a garage and flipped over before catching fire.

The other vehicle involved in the crash, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, veered out of control and hit another wall. Only one person was in that vehicle.

Only one victim was identified by late Saturday, but it wasn’t clear which vehicle Stacey Garcia, 30, of Los Angeles, was in.

Several family members at the scene told The Los Angeles Times that two of the people in the pursued car were Larry Gilmore, 35, and Shawnice Osborne, 20.

“It’s terrible to see two cars so mangled up,” said Keith Wright in an interview with The Times, who said he was Gilmore’s brother.

The events unfolded after a report of “multiple shots fired” came from the 100 block of West Indigo Street in Compton, Ramirez said.

The shooting, pursuit, and accident are all under investigation.

2 killed when LA cruiser crashes into car, officer injured

Two people were killed Saturday when the SUV they were riding in was struck by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s patrol car in Palmdale, Calif.

Sara Paynter, 20, of Van Nuys and Robert Delgadillo, 31, of Palmdale were the two victims in the accident according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, and the sheriff’s deputy was taken to the hospital and suffered moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at the corner of Avenue R and 17th Street about 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The victims’ 1994 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on Avenue R and the sheriff’s patrol car was heading northbound on 17th Street, authorities said

“For unknown reasons” the SUV entered the intersection “directly in front of” the patrol car, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol. The patrol car “hit the SUV and caused it to spin out, ejecting the two passengers into the roadway, the statement said.

According to Lt. Ken Wright of the sheriff’s Palmdale station, the speed of the vehicles involved was not immediately known, but did say the deputy was responding to a nearby call.

Multiple media outlets have reported that the deputy’s vehicle did not have its lights and sirens on at the time of the crash, but Wright said he was unfamiliar with the investigation and not able to comment about that.

Investigators told reporters at the scene that they have conflicting witness statements on whether the SUV had stopped at a stop sign and fast the deputy was going at the time of the incident.

The accident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Wright said.

Valentina Dola-Sandro, 16, died Saturday when the red Ford Mustang in which she was a passenger in collided with another vehicle. The other vehicle flipped during the crash, witnesses said.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Avalon Boulevard around 2:00 a.m. the LAPD said.

Dola-Sandro was sitting in the backseat of the Mustang and was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed, according to the LAPD. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear if she was wearing her seat belt.

There were four teenagers inside the Mustang at the time of the collision. The three other teens in the Mustang, and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a red light, according to Sgt. Jeremy Duncan of the LAPD. It was not known if the driver of the Mustang has had any charges filed against him at this time.

Students at Torrance High School where Dola-Sandro attended could be seen around campus wearing maroon colored sweatshirts in honor of her.

“It was… her favorite color, so everybody thought we should wear maroon.  It’s also our school color,” Vince Perez, a student at the school told KTLA 5.

According to Lt. Michael Williams of the sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills Station, the deputy’s cruiser was traveling in the same direction as Olin. The stretch of Mulholland Highway where the collision occurred has a painted bike lane. The unidentified deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the patrol car was towed from the scene. Olin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woman unknowingly live-tweets husbands car crash, death

Car Crash

(Source: Twitter)

Cara Johnson, who lives in the Vancouver, Wash. area, routinely live-tweets local car crashes and road incidents that come across the police scanner and Twitter accounts as a public service. What happened Wednesday could only be described as devastating.

Her husband, Craig, had left early from work.

Trooper William Finn, a spokesman with the Washington State Patrol, was tweeting about an accident on Vancouver’s Interstate 205. The car in question crossed the centerline striking an oncoming truck.

At 2:11 p.m. PT, Finn tweeted, “Vancouver – SB 205 @ Padden – Fatality collision. WB Padden to SB 205 is closed. Right lane SB 205 also closed in area. Use alt route!”

Craig was supposed to be on the same road the where accident occurred. After tweeting many of the details out on her account, Cara began to worry as her husband was late and wasn’t answering his phone.

Her tweets slowly escalated in panic as she tried desperately to reach him.

At 3:50 p.m. PT her fears were confirmed and her last tweet read, “it’s him. he died.”

Craig had left early from work not feeling well and suffered from epilepsy. He was the only fatality in the crash. The woman driving the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The car crash is still under investigation.

14-Year-Old Killed in Crash, brother survives

A 14-year-old boy died Sunday after the truck his 16-year-old brother was driving crashed. The accident occurred on Teal Road in Clarksburg, Calif. It took rescue crews almost 20 minutes to reach the rural area. The 16-year-old was uninjured in the crash.

The identities of the teens have yet to be released. The California Highway Patrol said the brothers were out hunting together before the deadly accident occurred.

The gravel road is narrow where the accident took place and an easy spot for the driver to loose control of the vehicle. Good Samaritans in the area heard the crash and rushed to help the 14-year-old boy while his brother waited for his parents to arrive.

His parents were in shock as they watched as people tired to rescue their son.

“We were afraid the car would tilt over even more and go all the way in the water,” said Itzayana Medina in an interview with CBS 13 Sacramento.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash and are unsure if the boy drowned or died from injuries sustained in the crash.
