Man Killed In Los Angeles Hit-And-Run Crash

Man Killed In Los Angeles Hit-And-Run Crash

Jerry Arredondo Jr.

A man was killed Tuesday night after a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at Wadsworth Avenue and East 106th Street, the Los Angeles County Coroner said.

The man has been identified as 19-year-old Jerry Arredondo Jr. of Los Angeles. The vehicle that fatally struck Arredondo is described as a 2013 silver Chevrolet Camaro. It is a rental car from Hertz. Arredondo was hit as he was getting out of his car, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“They were traveling at a high rate of speed, approximately up to maybe 100 mph on a residential street. He hit a dip at the corner of Wadsworth, lost control. The first collision was actually the victim’s car and at that point, that’s when he hit the victim, throwing the victim approximately 40 feet,” Sgt. Hendley Hawkins said in an interview with CBS Los Angeles.

The suspect has not been apprehended, allegedly fleeing the scene in a silver BMW.  The Los Angeles Police Department said Wednesday that they have contacted the driver’s uncle along with the woman who rented the Camaro. No arrests have been made at this time.

Multiple Cars Involved in Deadly Los Angeles Accident

Car Accident - Franklin Ave & Old Airport Rd

Last night, a Dodge Charger chased a Pontiac until they each ended up in a multiple car pileup. The people in the Pontiac are suspected of committing a drive-by shooting occurring at a fundraiser at West 79th and South Hoover Street that initiated the chase. Moments later, the two cars ran a red light and crashed into the cross traffic.

The cars collided in the intersection of Broadway and Manchester. The Pontiac hit a Saturn that was driving east on Manchester and the Saturn driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Charger ran into a pickup truck and the truck then collided with two parked cars and a man on a bicycle. The Charger driver is currently in critical condition, but everyone else involved in the accident suffered only minor injuries.

The driver and a passenger of the Pontiac fled from the scene and are currently being hunted for the drive-by shooting as well as the accident. A gun was found in the Pontiac that points to its inhabitants’ involvement in the shooting. A passenger from the Charger attempted to run as well, but was stopped by police on site.

This accident includes all tragic aspects of vehicles collisions. A fatality, hit-and-run, pedestrian, injuries, property damage and, even worse, it stemmed from a shooting. Los Angeles residents can only hope that justice will be served and disasters like this do not happen in the future.

Arrest Made In Long Beach Hit-And-Run

In California, pedestrians always have the right of way. When pedestrians walk across the street, they should look both ways to make sure that there are no cars coming their way. Unfortunately, there are many drivers who fail to see pedestrians. They also fail to yield to pedestrians. This causes problems for pedestrians because many die as a result of reckless drivers.

A Long Beach man was arrested in a hit-and-run incident that killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning on Pacific Coast Highway.

Three-year-old Boy Crushed Against Building By Hit-and-run Driver

Three-year-old Boy Crushed Against Building By Hit-and-run Driver

Ruben Ramirez, aged 3, died tragically yesterday when a driver pinned him against a building with her car. According to witnesses, the driver was trying to hit a woman with whom she had been arguing. The boy had been standing with his scooter outside a market late yesterday afternoon, October 3, 2011, while his mother shopped inside.

According to news stories, witnesses reported that the driver hit the boy straight on. Jennifer Silva, who saw the accident, said the whole store shook. She stated that before the accident, two women had been fighting outside of the market, when one of them got into a car that already contained a few other people. The driver, identified by Stockton police as Aushua McDuff-Brown, then tried to mow down the woman she had been arguing with, but hit the boy instead, according to Silva.

Paramedics tried to revive the little boy at the scene before he was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Jennifer Silva, a witness, said the child had been waiting for his parents when McDuff-Brown drove a car into him. Silva stated that while the boy was pinned, the driver was still trying to drive forward. She states she told the driver to back up and when the driver finally reversed the car, the boy fell. Silva stated she tried to stop the driver, but the driver fled the scene.

According to Stockton police Lt. Tom Jernigan, as reported in various news stories, the child’s parents had nothing to do with the fight that caused their son’s death. The boy’s tragic death happened around 3:45 p.m. at the Madison Market located at 748 N. Madison Street in Stockton.

Four-year-old Santa Rosa Boy Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver

Four-year-old Santa Rosa Boy Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver

Last week was a tragic morning for a four-year-old Santa Rosa boy who was struck by a hit-and-run driver yesterday evening. The child died at Children’s Hospital Oakland, according to a news story in the San Francisco Chronicle, where he had been transported after the 6:00 p.m. accident on August 18, 2011.

The boy was walking in a crosswalk across West Ninth Street with his family when the car hit him. No stop light or stop sign controls cars at that intersection, the news story states. After hitting the boy, the driver fled the accident scene. The Chronicle reports that someone who had been listening to police radio traffic heard about the hit-and-run accident, and saw the car at Finley Park, not even a mile from the accident site at West Ninth Street and Rockwell place near Jacobs Park. The person then notified police that the driver was removing stickers and decals off the rear window.

The hit-and-run driver, who then left with a woman in a Volvo, was apprehended by police. The driver was found to be not only unlicensed, but also was arrested twice for driving without a license. The driver was apprehended for felony hit-and-run, and may face other charges following the boy’s death.

Nine-year-old Boy Leaving Giants Game Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver

While walking back with his family to their hotel in San Francisco after a Giants game Friday, a nine-year-old boy was hit by a driver who left the scene.  The victim, Ryan White, was visiting from Philadelphia and had just watched the Phillies beat the Giants. Ryan was in the crosswalk around 10:40 p.m. when he, and his aunt, were struck by a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup that had been traveling the wrong way on New Montgomery, a one-way street, before turning onto Mission where the accident occurred.

The driver of the pickup, Andrew Alan Vargas, is alleged to have been driving drunk, and was arrested near his home on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence.

As reported in the San Francisco Chronicle, Ryan is in critical condition in San Francisco General Hospital. His aunt’s injury was not life threatening.

The news story reports that Ryan’s father said a car had screeched out of the street before it hit one car, then careened over into a second car, before hitting his son. The driver fled after hitting many parked and moving cars, which brought the police chief to examine the scene.

A passenger, who was in the pickup, stated he was texting and didn’t see the accident happen, but felt it. He said he and the driver both panicked, which is why they ran away.
