Valentina Dola-Sandro, 16, died Saturday when the red Ford Mustang in which she was a passenger in collided with another vehicle. The other vehicle flipped during the crash, witnesses said.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Avalon Boulevard around 2:00 a.m. the LAPD said.

Dola-Sandro was sitting in the backseat of the Mustang and was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed, according to the LAPD. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear if she was wearing her seat belt.

There were four teenagers inside the Mustang at the time of the collision. The three other teens in the Mustang, and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a red light, according to Sgt. Jeremy Duncan of the LAPD. It was not known if the driver of the Mustang has had any charges filed against him at this time.

Students at Torrance High School where Dola-Sandro attended could be seen around campus wearing maroon colored sweatshirts in honor of her.

“It was… her favorite color, so everybody thought we should wear maroon.  It’s also our school color,” Vince Perez, a student at the school told KTLA 5.
