Metal Fragments in Bagels
South Baldwin residents are being advised to take precaution when they purchase bagel. This is a warning that has been sent out by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Consumer Food Safety. They have issued a recall on packaged bagels. The bagels that are being recalled are by Sara Lee, Weight Watchers, Thomas’ and Publix with best-buy dates that range from Jan. 18-27.
According to a Foley Winnie Dixie Store Manager these specific items are being taken off the shelves of grocery stores. Consequently they are being replaced with newer bagels. The reason these products are being recalled is because their parent company, Bimbo Bakeries, found metal fragments in two packages of bagels. Even though these metal fragments have been food, there have been no reports of injuries or illnesses due to the product.
Here is a quote from Bimbo’s original recall notice:
“Voluntary Regional Recall of Thomas’, Sara Lee, Publix and Weight Watchers Bagels
HORSHAM, PA – BBU, Inc., the parent of the Bimbo Bakeries companies, has initiated a voluntary recall due to possible presence of fragments of metal caused by a faulty manufacturing part. Recalled products are the following fresh bagels with “Best Buy” dates (month and day) “JAN 18″ to and including “JAN 27″ found on the lock tab bag closures ….”
