Los Angeles Jogger Attacked and Killed by Four Pit Bulls

A 63-year-old woman was attacked by at least four tan-colored pit bull terriers Thursday morning. The provocation of the attack is unknown, but a witness driving by spotted the dogs mauling the jogger and attempted to disperse them.

The witness called the police and honked her horn to chase them away. When the police arrived, there was still one dog on the scene. The dog initially ran away, but then came back and attacked the officer as well. He attempted to shoot the dog, but missed and the dog ran off into the desert.

Los Angeles and neighboring cities have been warned to watch out for the dogs. It has been reported that the dogs have attacked people before and have been seen roaming around the city.

The jogger died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital and currently the coroner’s office is looking for cause of death.

It is likely, given the area, that these dogs were dumped by a previous owner. It is unclear currently whether the dogs had collars or identification, but because they look similar it is plausible that they have come from the same place.

Dog bites and attacks obviously can be very serious and even fatal. If this happens to you, or someone that you know, it is helpful to have an attorney on your side. Contact AAG today to find out what rights you deserve as a victim.

How Weather Affects Driving Conditions

Driving Cars in a Traffic Jam

Everyone knows that rain and snow cause more accidents, so people have become more cautious when driving in those conditions; however, there are dangers that can occur while driving on the best of days, when people are not as responsive.

An interesting condition to consider the next time it’s warm is humidity levels and their effects on the road. Changes in moisture alter asphalt, melting and remolding it. The roads then become cracked, raveled and full of holes. Mixing all of that with the constant amount of vehicles zooming atop it creates a very hazardous street or highway. But most drivers do not think of that when it’s a good day for the beach.

Wind speed is also a major culprit in car accidents. Heavy gusts can occur in any weather and when it is sunny outside, drivers will not notice the wind until it has almost forced them into another lane. Depending on the location and surrounding lands, wind can impair visibility by blowing dirt or trash around the freeways. There is also the added risk of larger items being carried into the driving lanes.

Rain and snow obstruct a driver’s vision as well as the roads on which he/she is driving. The cement or asphalt beneath the vehicle is now covered with a slippery coat that does not stabilize car tires well. People also decrease their speed (which is recommended) and that causes sudden changes in traffic flow. The easiest way to get rear-ended is by someone who did not immediately notice the stopped car in front of him/her.

Fog can be just as dangerous and as unpredictable as rain or snow. Light fog is manageable, though irritating; heavy fog is chaotic. Brake lights are barely visible from feet away and each driver drives at a different speed, unaware of what’s ahead. Accidents are very likely in these conditions and traffic flow decreases to a stop.

Weather plays a major role in shaping drivers’ commutes. Whether it simply affects the speed of traffic or momentarily blinds people, it can be very dangerous. Traffic collisions can happen at any time and during any forecast, and finding the right car accident attorney is important.

First Toyota, Now General Motors

It has been a year of recalls in the automobile industry. First Toyota and now General Motors Co is recalling 13,680 cars globally. The reason for the recall is to address potential problems with improperly tightened suspension bolts.  Other problems include faulty airbags, according to the company. The U.S. safety regulators have also filed documents involving this recall. The issues have not resulted in any physical accidents or injuries, according to General Motors.

GM is recalling 8,519 2013 model year Chevrolet Malibu sedans in the United States. This is for problems involving the suspension. The problem is that one or more rear suspension bolts may not have been tightened properly. As you can imagine, this could lead to a driver losing control of the vehicle. This would increase the risk of a unnecessary car accident, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

General Motors is recalling another 1,060 of the cars in various other countries, which include Canada, Mexico and overseas, General Motors said. Owners should look for obnoxious noises and minor handling issues in vehicle, NHTSA claimed. General Motors has just begun to inform the vehicle owners.

General Motors also is recalling 3,896 2012 model year Buick Verano, and Chevy Camaro, Cruze and Sonic cars in the United States. But, this is for a different problem. This recall is being administered to address potentially faulty airbags, according to the NHTSA. An additional 205 cars were affected by the recall in Canada, General Motors said.

The driver side front airbag has a shorting bar that may intermittently contact the airbag terminals. This is a problem because there is a possibility that this will cause the airbags not to deploy. This will increase the risk of injuries, according to the NHTSA. The recall is expected to begin on February 13 of this year. General Motors is claiming that this recall is an expansion of one from last fall.

If you or a loved one have been in an accident due to a faulty product it is necessary to seek legal advice. It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to compensate the pain and suffering that you have suffered. An Accident Attorney will make sure that you receive every cent that you deserve.

Serious Car Accident In The Midwest

Car accidents usually occur because of negligence. While a driver may not be intentionally causing a collision, their careless driving behavior is reason enough. Drivers have a responsibility to be responsible when they get behind the wheel. They must be attentive on the road and carefully watching out for other vehicles.

Authorities are investigating after passengers fled following a three-vehicle wreck near Midtown St. Louis Thursday night.

At Least 20 Injured In Train Collision

After colliding with a big rig truck, an Amtrak train carrying about 169 passengers derailed in California’s Central Valley.

Working into the early hours of Tuesday morning, crews worked to remove the two derailed cars and repair the damaged railroad tracks.

According to authorities, at least 20 passengers experienced minor to moderate injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, carrying cotton rubbish did not yield for the train, resulting in collision between the two, on Monday afternoon. The locomotive and two passenger cars were pushed from the track due to the impact, in the farming community of Hanford.

A passenger, Edmund Sanders, who had missed his Greyhound bus from Fresno en route to Los Angeles spoke with the Fresno Bee:

“Right after it happened I see all these people with a terrified look on their faces, all trying to get to the front of the train. I tried as best I could to try and calm people down and help them get off that train. I really think that God has his hands on that train today.”

Before hitting a switchback and derailing, the train travelled about 600 feet after the collision, California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Harris said.

Officials have yet to determine the speed of the train and the truck before the collision, through the average speed of an Amtrak train is about 70-80 mph and the speed limit on the highway the driver was on is 55 mph, Harris said.

Cotton seeds were scattered across the scene and the truck’s metal pieces were seen inside the train, after the collision. Luggage had been thrown from the train and was dispersed around the train.

The majority of the injuries were minor and included bruises, bumps, scrapes and a few broken bones, King County Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam told The Associated Press.

The crossing where the crash occurred was supplied with a gate to stop traffic, Putnam said.

No specific details on the extent of the injuries was released by Adventist Medical Center’s spokeswoman, Christine Pickering. However, she did say eight of the injured passengers were taken to the hospital and five more were expected to be treated there.

“We did call in additional physicians and staff,” Pickering told The Associated Press.

The nearby Adventist Medical Center, in Selma, admitted four other injured passengers, while seven others went to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, authorities said.

Authorities are investigating the crash to see whether it was caused by a malfunctioning cross arm or if it was due to an error or negligence from the driver, the CHP said.

If you are involved in an accident due to another party’s negligence, you could be entitled to compensation for your losses.
