Toddler Died in Now Recalled Graco Car Seat

Toddler Died in Now Recalled Graco Car Seat

Millions of Graco car seats are being recalled after concerns from the federal safety regulators about their safety in an emergency. A Los Angeles toddler died in a car fire after the buckle on her Graco car seat got stuck and her mother was unable to remov her from the seat.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s investigation has led Graco Children’s Products to recall 3.8 million car seats.

According to a letter sent to Graco by the safety agency, the car seat investigation “revealed numerous instances where the harness buckle was difficult or impossible for consumers to unlatch.”

The Los Angeles toddler that died, two-year-old Leiana Ramirez, was killed in a car fire on the Arroyo Seco Parkway in Highland Park while in a Graco Nautilus car seat. Leiana’s mother tried to remove her from the burning car, as did a bystander who was later hospitalized, but were unable to remove her in time.

According to the agency’s website, a faulty Graco buckle can make it “difficult to remove the child from the restraint, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a vehicle crash, fire, or other emergency, in which a prompt exit from the vehicle is required.”

Graco is sending replacement buckles to owners who registered their car seats. Those who did not register but want a replacement can call their hotline at 800-345-4109.

Chrysler Refuses to Recall

The federal government has issued a warning to Chrysler and Chrysler car owners that certain models have defective properties that make them incredibly dangerous; however, the carmaker is declining to officially recall the models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has asked Chrysler to recall 2.7 million Jeep vehicles. The 1993-2004 Grand Cherokee models and the 2002-2007 Liberty models are all at risk to cause deadly fires.

At this point, fifty-one people have died in these models after being rear-ended and then trapped in a burning vehicle. These specific cars have fuel tanks that are behind the rear axle; and a collision from behind can cause a leak in the tank, which then creates a fire that quickly engulfs the Jeeps.

NHTSA has confronted Chrysler with the problem, but the company has not complied with establishing a recall or a solution. It has until June 18 to issue a formal response to NHTSA explaining why it will not recall the vehicles.

Chrysler stands by its models, claiming that safety is a top priority when manufacturing each vehicle. According to its CEO, Sergio Machionne, “[Chrysler] stands behind the quality of its vehicles.” The company supposedly rejects the recall because the dangers of any rear-end collision are high, and its Jeeps are not to blame specifically for the fatalities.

Though the millions of Jeeps that are under question passed original safety standards, NHTSA does not feel that that is enough to ignore an overlooked defect that it causing dozens of deaths. NHTSA has not provided a way to fix the issue at this point; however, alerting drivers of the dangers and getting the vehicles off of the road officially is a good first step.

Chrysler is being forced to recall over 250,000 of their pickup trucks and SUV’s. The reason these vehicles is being recalled is because the rear differential could end up failing. Obviously this can cause problems for the driver. A driver can end up losing control of the vehicle and get involved into an accident. The Highway Traffic Administration announced the recall on their website this past Thursday.

Surprisingly, Chrysler had a recall on these products last fall. The recall involved the same problems, only this time; it involves 6 times more vehicles.

The new recall covers the 2009-12 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota as well as the 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango.

In the past, Chrysler recalled about 44,300 2009-10 Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota vehicles. Chrysler began receiving many complaints and after further investigation has decided to recall these vehicles.

So far Chrysler has reported 15 accidents that involve this situation. They have not disclosed whether or not there were injuries in the accident.

The automaker said in its new report that it knew of 15 accidents, but the report was not clear about whether there were injuries.

If you have been involved in an accident due to a recall, it is necessary that you contact a recall attorney. A recall attorney will fight for you and make sure that you are compensated for the pain that has been brought upon you. Your compensation could include car replacement, payment for medical bills, paid time off work and more. But, you must act now. being recalled is because of faulty sun roofs. The sunroofs can shatter and fall on the driver and passengers while in the vehicles. In December, Hyundai announced that they would begin a recall on 13,500, 2012 Velosters for the same problems. Hyundai is currently claiming that sunroof assembly may be shattering because of problems with installations at the factory. The manufacturer has informed that at least five people have suffered injuries due to the Veloster’s sunroof shattering. Fortunately, there have been no crashes recorded involving the sunroof.

The problem was discovered in October. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation after receiving numerous complaints from drivers. These complaints also include Hyundai’s sister company, Kia.

It is Hyundai’s plan to begin informing owners. The dealers will be inspecting sunroofs and replacing them, free of charge. The recall is set to begin next month. For more information, or if you have any questions, you may contact Hyundai at (800) 633-5151 or contact your local Hyundai dealership.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the sunroof’s integrity and replace the sunroof glass assembly, as necessary, free of charge. The safety recall will begin in March. Owners may contact Hyundai at (800) 633-5151.

Though recall accidents can be uncommon it is necessary to take precaution. These types of accident can cause serious injury and financial stress to you and your family. If you have been injured in an accident due to a faulty product, it is necessary to seek legal assistance. For more information  or a free consultation, please visit a recall attorney.
