Study Ranks Glendale, California Third Most Dangerous City for Driving in U.S.

Study Ranks Glendale, California Third Most  Dangerous City for Driving in U.S.

It’s no honor to be ranked the third most dangerous city for driving in the U.S., but that’s what Glendale, California has earned according to a study by Allstate Insurance Company.

Last month, the National Safety Commission published a story on its website linking to the insurance company’s report. Every year, the company delivers a report on the best and worst cities for driving. The study used collision claims to the company, and then compared them to the average for the nation as a whole. Cities were ranked by population.

To keep extraordinary hazardous events, such as hurricanes and floods, from influencing the results, the company examined accident numbers over a two-year timeframe.

Five cities made the list for the top five worst to drive in, with the list giving a driver’s chance of getting in an accident, and the average number of years between accidents.

Washington, DC; Baltimore, Maryland; Newark, New Jersey; and Providence, Rhode Island took the number 1, 2, 4, and 5 spots, respectively. Surprisingly, Glendale, California—the only West Coast city—took the number 3 spot. According to the company’s study, a driver in Glendale has only 5.5 years between accidents, and a chance of being involved in an accident that is 80.8 percent more than the national average. Yes, that’s right. 80.8 percent more.

Drivers in Glendale can do better than this. Making the top 5 on this list is no credit.
