Four-year-old Santa Rosa Boy Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver

Last week was a tragic morning for a four-year-old Santa Rosa boy who was struck by a hit-and-run driver yesterday evening. The child died at Children’s Hospital Oakland, according to a news story in the San Francisco Chronicle, where he had been transported after the 6:00 p.m. accident on August 18, 2011.

The boy was walking in a crosswalk across West Ninth Street with his family when the car hit him. No stop light or stop sign controls cars at that intersection, the news story states. After hitting the boy, the driver fled the accident scene. The Chronicle reports that someone who had been listening to police radio traffic heard about the hit-and-run accident, and saw the car at Finley Park, not even a mile from the accident site at West Ninth Street and Rockwell place near Jacobs Park. The person then notified police that the driver was removing stickers and decals off the rear window.

The hit-and-run driver, who then left with a woman in a Volvo, was apprehended by police. The driver was found to be not only unlicensed, but also was arrested twice for driving without a license. The driver was apprehended for felony hit-and-run, and may face other charges following the boy’s death.
