Details have been surfacing on Iron Chef Cat Cora’s DUI from last month. Famously known for her culinary skills and TV personality, a bit of bad press has now been added to Cat Cora’s portfolio. On Sunday, June 17, Cora was cited for driving under the influence in Santa Barbara and has her arraignment scheduled for July 26.

There are many misfortunate accidents that occur in freeways. Most of these spring out of nowhere and are out of our control. No one likes an accident, and no one expects to get into an accident when they are safe drivers. Passengers of a vehicle leave their safety up to the driver; and if the driver is a friend, these car occupants put their trust in the driver. Sadly, a driver can still be reckless with an automobile despite who is in the car—friend or not.

With all the warnings about driving while intoxicated, you would think that people would understand the enormity of the consequences associated with it. Being caught for a DUI in the state of California can cost thousands of dollars in fines and bills, not to mention the driving probation and driving school that comes follows it. However, it’s not only the fines and the probation that makes drunk driving revolting; it’s all the human lives a driver may endanger, whether in the car or others around.

Maximillion Infinity Petrakos was killed on Sunday, June third after being hit by driver Tina Silva on the Pomona Freeway shoulder.

Twenty-eight year old Silva is suspected to have been driving under the influence when she fatally struck 13-year old Petrakos early Sunday morning at around 12:40 a.m. Petrakos had been out on the shoulder of the Pomona (60) Freeway with his 41-year old mother, Mary Hively in Hacienda Heights. The pair was standing next to Hively’s broken down Toyota Corolla when the unfortunate incident occurred. Hively is currently in critical condition in the hospital after receiving personal injury.
