Man and Woman Die in Motorcycle Crash in Buena Park

Early this morning, July 21, 2011, a 23-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman died when their motorcycle crashed into a concrete median on Malvern Avenue in Buena Park. As reported in the Orange County Register, police state that speed and alcohol may have played a role in the fatal accident.

Friends of the couple witnessed the accident, that occurred around 2:00 a.m., through the rear-view mirror of their car as they had been traveling in front of the motorcycle. They called for help.

Johnny Carrillo, who was an Army Ranger, died at the scene. Rescuers took his companion to UCI Medical Center in Orange, but she died in surgery.

According to the news story, investigators found signs that Carrillo was driving fast and lost control. The motorcycle struck a concrete median, slid along the ground and hit a light pole. Both Carrillo and his companion, who were wearing helmets, were thrown from the bike.

Carrillo’s friends called his parents who arrived at the scene of the accident. They told police their boy had been home for two weeks from Afghanistan and was about to be sent on a new deployment to South Korea. He was supposed to leave this morning. Investigators are continuing to examine this tragic accident.
